Dr. Shawn R. Klein is an Ophthalmologist and Partner of Klein & Scannapiego MD PA, specializing in Refractive Surgery (LASIK and PRK) and Corneal Disease. Dr. Shawn Klein is one of New Jersey’s very few Cornea-fellowship trained LASIK surgeons who routinely performs complex cataract and multi-focal implant surgeries.
Dr. Klein grew up in Livingston, NJ. He was graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his M.D. and was a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (formerly “Rutgers”) in New Brunswick, NJ. He went on to complete his medical internship at Saint Vincents Hospital in Manhattan which was followed by his ophthalmology residency at New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Dr. Klein further specialized as the Fellow of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Klein is a Board Certified ophthalmologist. He teaches as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he assists in the training of the Ophthalmologists of tomorrow.
Dr. Klein has presented research on many different ophthalmologic topics at international meetings and has been published numerous times in the medical literature. He has been invited to speak in national forums as a panel expert for his LASIK and Wavefront technology experience. Most recently, he was an invited speaker at the World Cornea Congress in Washington, DC. He has recently co-authored a chapter in the seminal textbook “Cornea” on Photo-Refractive Keratectomy.
